Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally is a truly remarkable fourth album by Harry Styles. As someone who doesn’t listen to a lot of pop music and artists like Harry Styles, I was surprised about how much I enjoyed listening to this album.
Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally is a dozen-song album, marking Styles’ shift into electronic dance music, while also including his style of songwriting. It is inspired by the nights he spent in cities like Rome and Berlin. Songs like “Aperture” and “Ready, Set, Go” display his emotional honesty and open-ended lyrics that invite listeners to find their own meaning.
“Aperture:” When I started the album, this song gave me a feeling of upbeat energy and made me feel like I was levitating while listening to this song. This song is definitely my favorite song on this album, and it’s easy to see why it made the top 100 of the Billboard Hot 100. The beat to this song shows Styles’ talent of music and how he can add anticipation to his songs. “It’s best you know what you don’t, aperture lets the light in,” is my favorite lyric in this song. It is saying how you can let new experiences happen by just not thinking about the future.
“Ready, Set, Go:” This song just makes you feel like you’re going on a late-night walk through the city. It is full of excitement and adds a playful tone to the album. The rhythm is blended with a steady beat that you can dance to.
As you keep listening to the rest of the album, you notice the balance of reflective moments and high, upbeat tracks. My favorite part of this album is how Styles’ makes his lyrics able to allow listeners to interpret them in any way they would like. As someone who doesn’t listen to much pop music, this album exceeds my prospects of music.
