One promise, two hearts, and a thousand boy kisses placed in a jar. “Best friends for infinity,” as Poppy and Rune like to say. In A Thousand Boy Kisses, Tillie Cole doesn’t just tell a love story; she changes the perspective of life and love.
After reading this book, you will never see life the same again. In this book, you won’t just cry towards the end; instead, you will be crying in the beginning, middle, and end. Even after you finish the book, your eyes are dry, and your pages are soaked in tears, you will still be left crying and thinking about this beautiful story.
A Thousand Boy Kisses is a novel that follows characters Poppy, an optimistic, outgoing girl, and Rune, a Norwegian new boy who returns to Blossom Grove. They are 5 years old when they meet and decide that they will be best friends forever.
The book follows them as they grow up, eventually 15 years old, in love as if they were soulmates. Then Rune’s dad gets a job back in Norway, and as much as Rune fights it because he doesn’t want to leave Poppy, he goes with no choice. They promise to call each other every day until suddenly Poppy doesn’t call back. When he returns to Blossom Grove at 17 years old, he and Poppy have a lot of things to unravel.
This book was so attention-grabbing, and there are so many words and thoughts the characters have that just change your perspective on what love truly is and how we look at life. I cried throughout the book because the love story was so sweet, and was carried through extremely sad moments. For example, a quote that stood out was, “One kiss lasts a moment. But a thousand kisses can last a lifetime.” This is truly such a sweet quote.
I genuinely believe you can read this book in one sitting. It’s fast-paced and doesn’t have a dull moment. The writing style was good, the creativity was phenomenal, and the plot will have you never wanting to stop reading, even when you’re bawling your eyes out.
This sad, heart-wrecking romance novel will make your life a thousand times better by just reading it. A Thousand Boy Kisses is a book I would read a thousand times over again just to relive Poppy and Rune’s story a thousand more times.
