From Michael B Jordan and Timothee Chalamet, who raced for the Actor in a Leading Role award to tying for the seventh time in Oscar history for the Best Live Action Short Film category, the Oscars had the internet booming and the viewers glued to their seats. The ninety-eighth annual Oscars took place on March 15th, hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien. Like years past, the Oscars were held in Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre to help celebrate the achievements in film this year.
Fans have been buzzing about the Best Actor in a Leading Role award since the nominations were announced. The devoted Michael B Jordan fans and beloved Timothee Chalamet fans were battling over who would be heading home with the award at the end of the night. First, Timothee Chalamet was anticipated to take home the Oscar for his role in Marty Supreme. The critics loved his commitment to the character Marty Mauser as Timtothee spent 6-7 years practicing ping pong for this role. This preparation paid off as Marty Supreme was A24’s highest-grossing film, and Timothee won the Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice, so he was the highest contender for the Oscar. This all changed when controversy sparked around Timmy due to a statement he made in an interview about ballet and opera. For the press tour of Marty Supreme, in an interview with Matthew Mcconaughey, Timothee stated

he wouldn’t want to work in Ballet or Opera because it was a dying act. He said,’Keep this thing alive even though no one cares about this anymore.’ This one statement turned the course of the ‘Best Actor’ category, putting Michael B. Jordan on top. Michael B Jordan’s impressive performance in ‘Sinners,” playing two twins, Smoke and Stake, showed that he was worthy of this award and resulted in him walking home with it that night. He was also seen celebrating his win at In and Out, enjoying the iconic double-double burger with his Oscar beside him.
Another shocking event at the Oscars was a tie for the Best Live Action Short Film category. Many viewers took this news by surprise, not thinking this was possible at big awards shows. But, this is actually the seventh tie in Oscar History, where the last tie was in 1995. The two films, ‘The Singers’ and ‘Two People Exchanging Saliva’, tied as the presenter, Pakistani-American comedian and actor Kumail Nanjiani stated, “It’s a tie, I’m not joking.”
There was no surprise that K-POP Demon Hunters took home not one but two awards on Oscar night. The Netflix original kids’ film took the world by storm with amazing characters and songs that got stuck in our heads for days, winning Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for its hit track, “Golden.” The three artists, EJAE, Rei Ami, and Audrey Nuna, also performed the hit song, giving all the celebrities, including Leonardo DiCaprio and Emma Stone, lightsticks. K-Pop Demon Hunters became the first K-Pop song to win this Academy Award.
The Oscars 2026 were an exciting night and a thrilling time for the world of film. There are many new movies hitting the big screen, such as Toy Story 5 and Dune: Part Three starring Timothee Chalamet where we hope to see presented on the Oscars stage next spring. In addition to these new anticipated films, there is also a new location for the Oscars in the next few years. The Academy has just announced that the Oscars will be moved from Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre to the Peacock Theater in L.A in 2029.
