The Housemaid, released December 19th, 2025, quickly became highly popular. People fell in love with the plot of the story, the characters, the plot twists, and the relation to the book. Some people disliked the movie because they believed the dialogue was unrealistic, and some even felt that the movie was rushed. The Rotten Tomatoes popcornmeter shows 92% of the audience liked the movie, which really shows how much it caught people’s attention. When I went to watch the movie, I found it very entertaining.
The Housemaid is about a girl, Millie, who just gotten out of prison, lives in her car, and is in desperate search of a job. She takes many job interviews but stumbles upon a house in need of a housemaid. She waited for the woman who needed a housemaid to call back. When she did call back to let Millie know she got the job, she was so excited, especially because it was a live-in job and the lady lived in a mansion with her kid and husband. It is
When she got there, she saw the house was super fancy and was excited to see her room, only to realize her room would be a closed, dark attic with no windows and the lock of the door on the outside. This gave Millie bad vibes; she got to meet Nina’s daughter and Nina’s husband. To Millie, the daughter seemed odd, but the husband was very sweet.
The next day, she realizes how crazy Nina was when she was yelling and acting psychotic and erratic in the morning because she thought Millie lost something of hers. This is just the beginning if the darkness that later unfolds. This movie is based on a book by Freida McFadden.
For someone who has read the book first, I would say the movie is pretty similar to the book, maybe just a few changes in the end, but overall, they were pretty similar. The actors in the show, such as Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, and Brandon Sklenar, really made the movie come alive. These actors portrayed their characters really well, and even off set, you can always see them together having a great time and always laughing.
Talking about the actors, there has been a lot of controversy about Sydney Sweeney portraying the role of Millie. Many people don’t like her acting style, and she has become a controversial topic. Personally, I think she portrayed the role well and brought the movie to life, as did her co-star Amanda Seyfried.
Alexandra Kosiorek, a freshman at Wayne Hills, has read the book and watched the movie The Housemaid, and she said that she really enjoyed the movie and the book. “I would definitely recommend watching The Housemaid. It was a really good movie.”
Alexandra has also read the book; she shared with me some comparisons from the book that she liked and how she felt about Sydney Sweeney portraying Millie.”I feel like the movie and book are similar plot-wise, but I think the book was a little bit better. I think the actors were good, and Sydney Sweeney played her role well despite the controversy.”
The Housemaid was a fun experience for many viewers. It allowed viewers to have fun, laugh, and be very surprised by a shocking plot twist. If the suspense of the epic plot twist is killing you, I guess you have to watch right now! You would never guess the true villain.
