Taylor Swift came out with a new album called The Life of a Show Girl on October, 3 2025. Many “Swifty” fans were ecstatic for the release but were soon disappointed when they listened to the album.
Older fans praise the album and appreciate the work—some even say that she is a lyrical genius. They also see it as a vulnerable album where Taylor Swift expresses how it feels to work in the music industry. Swift expresses in her music how no matter what type of music she makes she can never please all fans, and that is the life of a showgirl.
While older fans praise the new album, the majority of newer fans and some older fans do not enjoy Swift’s new album. Some fans say that some of the lyrics are “clunky” and cringy. Swift uses metaphors and pop culture references; fans feel that this made her songs tacky, cheesy, and not meaningful.
The Life of a Showgirl ft. Sabrina Carpenter warns a newcomer about the harsh relatives of this job. Swift speaks upon personal subjects in her life, some being: her relationship with Travis Kelce, career pressure, navigating public life, etc. Opalite is a song dedicated to Travis, and takes his birthstone (opal) and her birth month (October) to tell him that he helped her end a constant pattern of toxic relationships. Father Figure addresses the pressure of being a celebrity and the challenges that come with it.
Layah Colabelli says “Taylor Swift’s new album was extremely disappointing and was not all that it could be. Taylor has many good albums and this was not one of them. Her album was corny and she overshares some personal parts in her life in a few of her songs.”
