Despite SZA’s second studio album ‘SOS’ only being released last December, during a live performance in September, SZA announced that her Deluxe version of the album entitled ‘Lana’ would be released before the end of this year, and described it as “a whole ‘nother album.”
However, fans are shocked that in less than a year, SZA already announced the release of the Deluxe album. SZA’s previous album ‘Ctrl’ was released in June of 2017 and the world waited five years for the Deluxe version of the album, which was released at the beginning of 2022. Later that same year, she released ‘SOS’, and her fans were appreciative to be getting so much new music from her after her 5-year hiatus. Regardless, SZA fans are grateful and anticipate the release of the album which proves that the fan base SZA built over the years admires her in-depth literacy and pure passion for creating and producing music.
SZA’s ‘SOS’ broke the record for the most weeks at number 1 on the Top R&B Albums Chart and topped the Billboard 200 for 9 consecutive weeks after its release. The amount of love and support SZA received for ‘SOS’ was unbelievable and it is expected to be passed on to her soon-to-be-released album ‘Lana.’
SZA announced that her album ‘Lana’ is going to have 7-10 songs on it, meaning there would be fewer songs on it than there are in ‘SOS’; it is a similar amount to her breakthrough EP ‘Z’ released in 2014. The amount of songs on a single album isn’t crucial to most diehard SZA fans, as they only wonder what kind of music she will release and anticipate the connection she will make through her music.
A lot of students at Wayne Hills love SZA’s music and have high expectations and many thoughts about what will come from ‘Lana.’ Junior Matian Banusi stated, “I’m expecting good features and fire tracks that surpass ‘Ctrl’ since Ctrl’ is her best album and ‘Lana’ has a lot of hype.” Based on all of SZA’s amazing work, it is evident that every time she releases music, fans hope her passion and rhythm don’t fade and that she continues to release hit after hit; but the unruly question is, will she eventually become burnt out and mediocre? Obviously, diehard SZA fans deny that this will ever happen, but it is something to consider as she gains fans and her music becomes more in demand.
Junior Natalie Lewis added, “I’m so excited for ‘Lana.’ ‘SOS’ is such a good album and I’m hoping for the deluxe to give a ‘Ctrl’ vibe. I’m honestly expecting songs that remind me of ‘Ctrl’ on the album or just songs that are very similar to songs already on ‘SOS.'” It’s clear that fans have very high expectations of SZA’s upcoming album, and only time will tell if the expectations are met or unfulfilled.
All in all, the release of ‘Lana’ is highly anticipated by diehard SZA fans or even casual listeners. The world wonders what will come next from the master lyricist and the impact she will leave through her smooth rhythms and relatable lyrics. In the end, one thing is clear: SZA never disappoints.
