NHL Teams Battle for the Cup

The Stanley Cup Playoffs are one of the most exciting sporting events of the spring. Every season, the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin with 16 teams and are eventually narrowed down to two. The teams in the conference final round of the playoffs include The St. Louis Blues, The San Jose Sharks, The Tampa Bay Lightning and The Pittsburgh Penguins. These teams will face off against one another in the best of four out of seven games. The conference finals will last until May 27th and will ultimately be the deciding factor of which teams will be competing for the gold.
“Hockey is a very exciting sport,” says Robert Calafiore, a senior, “It never gets boring because there is always so much action.”

The 2016 Stanley Cup Finals are bound to be different from previous years. Over the course of the past six years, hockey fans have witnessed the Chicago Blackhawks take home the title in 2010, 2013 and 2015. This year however, The Chicago Blackhawks were defeated in the first round by the St. Louis Blues.
The 2016 Stanley Cup Final will keep fans at the edge of their seat. The teams that are competing are usually considered “underdogs” which will make the playoffs even more exciting.

“I would really like to see the The San Jose Sharks win the cup this year,” says Michael Crincoli, former WHHS hockey player, “it would be awesome because they have never won the cup before.”
