If you are keeping up with the news, then you know that there is a new AP Cybersecurity class coming to Wayne Hills for the 2026–2027 school year!
AP Cybersecurity is one of several new AP classes recently added by the College Board. The College Board is a nonprofit organization best known for developing standardized tests such as the SAT, PSAT, and Advanced Placement (AP) programs. Another new AP class appearing on the College Board website alongside AP Cybersecurity is AP Business with Personal Finance, which focuses on business planning and financial literacy.
Other recent AP classes that have been added include AP African American Studies, which was first introduced in 2022 as a pilot course, and AP Precalculus, which was introduced as a new mathematics class in 2023. It has also been reported that AP Statistics will be updated in the future to streamline and reduce the number of units covered on the AP exam.
Additionally, AP Cybersecurity will be taught by Mrs. Lisa Zaranski at Wayne Hills.
In terms of what AP Cybersecurity will cover, she explained that “AP Cybersecurity focuses on protecting computers, networks, and data from digital threats. Students will gain an understanding of encryption, network security, online privacy, vulnerabilities, and how cybersecurity professionals defend systems from cyberattacks.”
This course differs from other computer classes offered because “AP Cybersecurity focuses on protecting computer systems rather than writing code. It emphasizes networks, security risks, and real-world digital safety. While knowledge of coding is not necessary for AP Cybersecurity, the course complements coding skills students learn in other computer science classes.”
Lastly, Mrs. Zaranski noted that she is most excited to “introduce students to a rapidly growing field that impacts everyone’s daily life. AP Cybersecurity helps students understand how technology affects society while exposing them to possible careers in the field.”
Overall, the addition of AP Cybersecurity provides Wayne Hills students with an opportunity to explore an increasingly important field while learning practical skills related to digital safety and modern technology.
