Denise Scalzitti is a Wayne Hills High School graduate of the class of 2000. When she was in High school, she described it as fun, there was lots of spirit, and there was less bullying, everyone was friends with everyone. Kids acted differently because there were no cell phones, and people actually talked face-to-face and hung out often.
As Ms. Scalzitti described it, “life was just, it was different. We. There wasn’t the drama on the bullying that I see now.
For the most part, everyone was friendly.”
After she graduated, Ms. Scalzitti started working at Pines Lake Elementary School, and she worked there for 14 years while still being a part of Wayne Hills by being a coach there, she coached soccer and lacrosse. Then, after working there for 14 years, she switched to Wayne Hills and was a PE teacher here for almost 20 years, and throughout these 20 years of working here, she has brought such a positive impact to her students and other staff members.
I know that when I was in Pines Lake Elementary School, she was the one of the best PE teachers there, and I was lucky to have her. I also had a bonus that I was best friends with her daughter Gabriella. When I had Ms. Scalzitti, it was like a friend that I got to see every single day. She always used to tell me that if I needed to talk about anything, I could talk to her about it, and that felt like such a nice and safe thing to do. Now that I’m in Wayne Hills, I get to have her again, and that was just amazing because I was able to talk to her every day again.
She changed gym for the better, and many kids think the same, like Reiss Skowronski, who said, “I think she’s just made gym a lot more fun, and, I used to dread going to the gym, but when she started teaching gym, she made it a lot more, chill and, nicer to go to.”
Seden Furtun said, “She makes a lot of fun, ’cause she’s not strict, and she just makes it fun for others.”
Sabrina Wisniewski said, “She made it very comfortable, in comfortable situations, if I ever forgot something, she would be okay with it, and help me fix the problem.”
All of these girls shared the opinion on Ms. Scalzitti, and the one common thing that sticks out is that she is a really nice and friendly teacher here at Wayne Hills. She is really proud and happy with the impact that she has brought to the table. “My impact, because now that I get to work here and I get to have my students, we live like me going through it. I don’t know. I’m very glad to say that I graduated from Wayne Hills,” said Ms. Scalzitti.
“I knew how great it was. I wanted to be a part of it at a different level, rather than as a former student or coach.
I wanted to be a staff member,” said Ms. Scalzitti.
When Ms. Scalzitti said that she wanted to be a part of this, but at a different level really showed her dedication to this school and how much care at just the start of her Wayne Hills Life. She is very proud that she graduated from Wayne Hills High school, I think that others who either went to this school or graduated from Wayne Hills High school should be proud and maybe want to come back the same way that Denise did and change the game for some things and people because I know that Wayne Hills High School would not be the same if Ms. Scazitti wasn’t here.
