Ringing in the New Year with new goals is a tradition that takes place all around the world. Setting goals and expectations for oneself every year to try and accomplish more and be a better version of themself is a beloved tradition. But what do goals and resolutions look like for the younger generation? Adults look at New Year’s resolutions as a way to get a better spot at work, go to the gym more, or eat healthier. For teens in high school goals look different, and they dream about other things. Some resolutions for teens are to get better grades, be more active in their sport, or maybe start saving money for something cool to buy. When looking at the population of Wayne Hills High School most students reach for things within school to achieve.
Taking a better look at sophomore student Mia Spano’s New Year’s resolutions, she shares her goals for the upcoming year of 2026. She states, “For my New Year’s resolutions I hope to achieve being more active and walking outside more. Being more active can benefit you in so many ways and going outside for 10-15 minutes can benefit me in such a positive way!” Mia sharing this with us says some teenagers can look outside of school and want to look at reaching goals within themselves and helping their body. Mia wants to be more active and even shares why she says it can benefit her even if it is only walking outside for a short period of time.
Everyone’s goals can look different and this is just one look inside a teenager’s mind going into the New Year. Seeing this experience and thinking what others wish for is really a good activity to do for the mind to see how you differ from others or if you have goals in common. Some look to achieve, some look to grow, but either way setting New Year’s resolutions is an amazing tradition. It also is a great way to start off the year with a positive mindset that says you will achieve and grow this year. It really lets you sit and think about your life and what you want for yourself in the future. Setting goals at any time of the year is good to have something to work towards, but setting them for a whole New Year is always fun and something many believe everyone should take part in. Even if they only achieve a small simple goal, it is still growth.
