Thanksgiving is one of the most significant times of the year at Wayne Hills High School.
The student council spends months painting posters for one of the biggest events of the year: the Spirit Rally. All four grades compete by trying to see who can rack up the most points, money, and food. Students bring in thousands of food items for the food drive to donate for families in need. These food donations go to the families of Wayne who are less fortunate than others. While all four grades are competing with one another for first place, they all have one common goal: to help families.
Every year on the Friday a week before Thanksgiving, all students gather in the Gifford Gym to play games like tug of war, basketball, stack the boxes, and balloon pop. The Cheer Team puts on an amazing show by showing off their skills. All four grades rally for first place—may the best grade win.
Tia Moussallieh acknowledges all the hard work that goes into Spirit Week. “Student Council works tirelessly starting the beginning of the school year all the way through Spirit Week. An extensive amount of planning and preparation goes into the Spirit Week poster, shirt themes, and donations. Many officer teams even begin brainstorming ideas during the summer to get a head start on poster painting. During Spirit Week, Student Council counts homerooms, takes pictures, counts cans, promotes Penny Wars, collects and gives donations, creates content, decorates the gym for the Spirit Rally, and so much more.”
Kynsie Pistone speaks about how exciting the Spirit Rally is. “I love having our annual Spirit Rally, it is such a fun time to hopefully win and have fun with your class. I had so much fun at last year’s Spirit Rally and can’t wait for this year!”
