This year Wayne Hills High School was introduced to an academic study hall where students whose teachers are absent report to the Commons together instead of their classroom. Many mixed opinions and feedback resulted after this started. Most kids in school love it because it means doing work with friends, having free time if work is done early, and no more quiet classroom time. To most kids in school this sounds great, but there are still a few who disagree.
Some kids find it distracting to be in such a loud chaotic environment when trying to get work done. This shows it has some downsides, but still students love this change.
Sophomore student Gwen Baccaro has great and shared opinions on this new addition to our school. She states “I really like having academic study halls because I get to be in a different environment while learning. It is also nice to see your friends from other classes.”
This is the most common opinion shared in the school, so most people agree that academic study halls are the best and make the day lighter and easier at times when you have a second in the middle of the day to breathe, get some work done with friends, and have time to talk and socialize with friends you normally do not see that class period. It allows for a free work environment and a chance to get away from a stuffy classroom and strict teachers even if it’s just for an hour.
This addition is also school-friendly, cutting back on substitute costs, so it is a win-win for everyone involved.
