2022 was a year full of excitement, records, stories, and championships. The joy of all of these moments brings people and fans together in awe of the greatest athletes in the world. Here are some of the top ten moments of the year (in no particular order):

1. Rams Win Super Bowl –

As a close to an exciting NFL playoff, the Los Angeles Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI 23-20. These were two unlikely teams playing in the Super Bowl and they delivered an exciting game that will be remembered for years to come. The game was back and forth for the entire game until the Bengals were up 20-13 with 10:15 left. In that final 10:15, the Rams were able to kick a field goal and score a touchdown leaving only 1:25 for Joe Burrow and the Bengals to attempt to answer back. They were unable to and the Bengals came out victorious to close the season.

2. An Exciting NCAA Basketball Tournament With A Championship Comeback an

d a Cinderella Story – This year’s NCAA tournament was one to remember. Early on in the tournament St. Peters arrived as the 15-seed and had a Cinderella story making it to the Elite 8. To add to that, the final was an exciting game with Kansas making a 16-point comeback in their win against North Carolina.

3. A Year of MLB Records – Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers got his 3000th hit (third in MLB history), Albert Pujols recorded his 700th career home run, and Aaron Judge hit 62 home runs this season earning the Yankees single-season record. All of these records were impressive and created great storylines this MLB season.

4. Warriors Win NBA Finals Over The Celtics – The Golden State Warriors defeated the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals in June. Stephen Curry was awarded the MVP award for his efforts in earning the Warriors their seventh NBA championship.

5. Avalanche Win Stanley Cup – The Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup Final in 6 games over the two-time defending champions Tampa Bay Lightning. It was a very exciting series with two outstanding goalies and many impactful players. Defenceman Cale Makar won MVP of the playoffs.

6. Serena Williams Bids Farewell at the US Open – One of the GOATS of tennis, Serena Williams, played her final tournament in September at the US Open. Serena had a nice run for most of the tournament until she lost to Ajla Tomljanović in the third round. Serena had a fantastic career with her 23 grand slam tournament wins and so many accomplishments.

7. Astros Win World Series Giving Dusty Baker His First – The Houston Astros defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in 6 games in the 2022 World Series. The manager of the team, Dusty Baker, finally won his first world series after 25 years as a manager in the MLB.

8. Argentina Wins World Cup – Argentina had a great run in the World Cup in Qatar this year. Star Player Lionel Messi won his first ever and the final was a game to remember. It was very close to the very end and came down to penalty kicks where Argentina was dominant.

9. Brittney Griner Arrested in Russia then Returned to the U.S. – Star WNBA player, Brittney Griner, was arrested in Russia on February 17th for allegedly possessing cannabis oil in her luggage. She was sentenced to nine years in prison but was then sent back to the U.S. in a prisoner swap with Viktor Bout.

10. Duke’s Coach K Retires – Duke men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski retired this year after his team’s run to the final four in the NCAA tournament. Coach K is the all-time winningest NCAA men’s basketball coach with 1202 career wins and will go down in history as one of the best coaches.
