In the rise to the top, 18-year old Emma Raducanu, from Britain took the title of 2021 US Open Women’s Finals Singles winner.

On September 11th, this young star beat out Leyla Fernandez, 19-years old from Canada.

Raducanu was born on November 13, 1998 in Ontario Canada and is now living in the UK. After her long stay in New York, on September 16, he was finally reunited back with her family. She even received a letter from the queen and spoke on the phone to the UK’s prime Minister,

Not only is Emma scoring on the tennis court, but off of it as well. It is said that she can get up to $100 million in endorsements just after this one match! She is getting offered from top brands including Nike and Gatorade. This money is all on top of the $2.5 million she won from winning the match.

This fame is something very new for the young star, being that she was only ranked 150th in the world prior to this match and 338th early this year! She has now rised to be within the top 25!

But the titles don’t end here. She has also become the first qualifier ever in mens and womens tennis history to win this title. In order to even get into this match, Raducanu had to play qualifying games, in which she won 10 without dropping a single set. That is completely unheard of.

Senior Carly Collins has agreed in saying “this young girl’s success is well-deserved. She wasn’t projected to qualify, and now she is an outstanding champion making millions of dollars. This would be any young 18-year old’s dream.”

On the other hand, I was able to talk to senior Gianna Betts who said, “It is slightly unfair. There were hundreds of women ahead of her, more prepared to win the title. Don’t get me wrong, I am happy for her, but it would have been nice for just the best of the best to compete.”

I, along with many other sports fans, are excited to see what step Emma takes on next on her victorious journey.
