Mass shootings in public places have become very prominent in the past few years. Recently in Kandahar, Afghanistan, 50 people were killed and 35 others injured in a brutal shooting. 38 civilians, 10 soldiers and 2 policemen were caught in the crossfire.  The shooting took place on December 8th  around 6:20 pm local time on Tuesday but the fighting stretched into Wednesday. It began at a market place located 300 miles southwest of the capital of Afghanistan, Kabul and continued on to a nearby airport.  It is through that the attackers were attempting to penetrate Kandahar Air Field airport because the airport contains a military base with troops from NATO.  The Taliban, who have taken responsibility for the attack, were carrying machine guns and targeting foreign forces. The assault occurred hours after a “Message to Obama” was posted online of Taliban suicide attackers warning U.S troops that they would not be safe in Afghanistan. It has been confirmed that out of the eleven attackers,  nine were killed and one was wounded in the assault.  “This war has raged on for far too many years. It is time America began to change how we are fighting against ISIS and the Taliban. We need to fight back with more force and with less remorse. We can’t keep letting them hurt and kill innocent people all around the world. Nations all around the world need to set aside their differences and come together to fight against terrorism. They must be stopped,” said Julian Ferrer, a junior here at Wayne Hills. Attacks by the Taliban have increased tremendously this year in part because of the withdrawal of troops from other countries. Less than 10,000 U.S troops remain in Afghanistan where they mainly advise and support Afghan security forces. It’s time we come together, and protect each other. We bleed, cry, and mourn the same, we all need to take a stand against terrorism once and for all.
