Klete Keller, an Olympic two-time gold medalist, invaded the United States Capitol building on January 6th, 2021. Keller is well known for his Olympic victory in 2008 where he took home the gold for swim relays. Now, 13 years later, he partook in the attack against the 117th United States Congress. Keller has not yet commented on his actions or appearance at the Capitol but Swim Swam (website) has identified him as one of the many there. The week after the invasion, Keller was arrested on three different charges. He was charged with disorderly conduct, obstructing law enforcement, and illegally entering a restricted area. He attended federal court in Denver and was then released.

While Keller has not made a comment yet about his role within the raiding of the Capitol, multiple sources are jumping to make conclusions as to why he, someone who is in the public eye and an esteemed figure within the sports community, felt that the attack was something he needed to participate in. The Guardian states that “his marriage collapsed, he was unable to hold down a series of sales jobs and he struggled to afford a place to live while paying child support for his three kids. He felt bitter and angry, losing motivation and gaining weight as he ate and drank to excess.” The downfall of his life after his win in 2008, leads people to believe that this is a contributing factor in his decision to storm the Capitol. Although, without his public statement, no one where he lies. No further information has come out about this case. When asking Wayne Hills student Daphne Saatcioglu about her thoughts on the case, she says “ this situation says a lot about the failed previous administration of this country. There must be more done to fix all of these problems in order to prevent anything like this from ever happening again.”
