The Fab-Lab, under the direction of Robert Yost, has been repurposing wood from last year’s discarded Gifford Gym bleachers to build a kitchen table.

The project, called “From Gifford to Gift” was created to help a special-education class, which reached out to Yost asking if it would be possible for the Fab-Lab to create a “much needed kitchen work table without any real funding.”

Yost’s students have put the discarded wood to good use, spending many weeks designing the table, cutting appropriate pieces of wood, and building the kitchen table.

“Last summer, Mr. Rewick called me to say the old bleacher planks were being replaced with new and perhaps I might want decent material for future student projects,” said Yost.  “I quickly responded and collected a bunch of bubble-gum cladded wood planks and stored them in my classroom.”

The Fab-Lab is planning to deliver a finished kitchen work table to the special education classroom during the week of May 21st.
