First Leo Trip is a Success

The WHHS Leo Club went to Liberty State Park for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) 5k walk on Saturday, October 24th. JDRF is an organization that is working towards finding a cure for type one diabetes, but in the meantime supports afflicted children and families. Through the combined effort of both WHHS and WVHS Leos and other donors, a total of  $14,273 was raised to support team “Miracle for Matthew” prior to the walk in honor of a little boy named Matthew, whom the Leos met a few weeks ago when his family spoke at WHHS.

Hundreds of people attended the walk and raised a total of $167, 669 including the $14,273 from Team Miracle for Matthew. The Leos are proud of their hard work, and are happy that they had the privilege to help work to end type one diabetes. The chilly breeze coming off of the Hudson river couldn’t stop the Leos from contributing to the cause:  “We walked a lot, and it was cold, but it was all for a great cause!” said Public Relations Director and senior Leo club member Rachel Alvarez. This first trip was certainly a success; the Leos are looking forward to going to Camp Marcella in late November for their second trip, which will hopefully be as great as the first!
