75th Golden Globes Nominees

The 75th Golden Globes Awards nominations have been released, fueling anticipation as the award show draws near.

The Golden Globes, which recognizes film and television accomplishments, will be hosted by NBC Late Night host Seth Meyers.

There are awards for both drama and musical/comedy films and TV shows. For movies, some awards include Best Motion Picture, Best Performance by an Actor/Actress, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress/Actor, Best Original Score, Best Screenplay, and Best Animated Film. The TV awards include Best Series, Best Performance by an Actor/Actress, Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, Best Performance for an Actor/Actress in a Supporting Role, etc.

With 15, Fox Searchlight Pictures had the most nominations for a motion picture distributor. HBO had 12 for the television awards, and Netflix was close behind with nine.

The Shape of Water received seven nominations by motion picture, and the television show Big Little Lies received six. Other popular shows and movies that were nominated more than once were Dunkirk and Stranger Things.

“It’s not a surprise, the writers are amazing,” said sophomore Julia Chrisbacher after hearing that Stranger Things could win an award.

When asked about Dunkirk, sophomore Colette Cutrona said, “It was so good, I loved Harry Styles and I loved that movie.” The film is in the running for Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Director, and Best Original Score. “The production was really good [and] it was really realistic,” Cutrona added.

The Golden Globes will be taking place on January 7th, 2018 at 8:00 P.M EST, airing on NBC.
