With six weeks under our belts for the 2017 NFL season, the teams have a good idea about their needs for next season. With the headline of the draft being the depth at the quarterback position, we look to see how the teams and players will fall out

1. Cleveland Browns: Selection- Sam Darnold QB Southern California

  • Going into this season the Browns drafted DeShone Kizer in the second round out of Notre Dame.  After releasing Brock Osweiler the Browns hoped to see success in Kizer as their Franchise quarterback, unfortunately for them he got benched after 4.5 games due to his lack of production. Expect the Browns to take Darnold as he comes off a season where he helped USC to a nine game win streak. With a strong arm, good eyes, and in a pro-style system Darnold is set up for success at the next level.

2. San Francisco 49ers: Selection- Saquon Barkley RB  Penn State

  • With new Head Coach Kyle Shanahan six games into his stint in San Fran he looks to find a future quarterback to help lead his team to success. Shanhan is coming off an incredible season as the Falcons Offensive Coordinator with All-Pro Matt Ryan under center, but with Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins becoming a free agent after this season expect the 49ers to make a big run for him. Due to the high chances of the Niners signing him, they should select Heisman favorite Saquon Barkley. Barkley is the highest rated running back to come out of college since future Hall of Famer Adrian Peterson did, and would add a lot of distraction to the defenses to help Cousins out.

3. New York Giants: Selection- Josh Rosen QB UCLA

  • Giants started off unexpectedly bad this season going 1-5 in the first six games, and although the quarterback position isn’t the biggest need on their team, they need to address it as quickly as possible. Eli Manning is entering the end of his career and they took Davis Webb out of Cal in the draft but with the Air-Raid system he played at Cal with I don’t expect him to have an easy transition into the NFL. Rosen is someone who may have to sit the bench under an experienced and successful quarterback like Manning for a year or two until Manning retires, but he has the most upside as a quarterback in the draft especially with the weapons that the Giants have on their teams.  Rosen is perfect for the Giants, drawing comparisons to Matt Ryan and Eli Manning with his pocket presence, pin point accuracy, and experience under center.

4. Indianapolis Colts: Selection- Arden Key DE LSU

  • Ever since the ends of Peyton Manning’s career in Indianapolis their defense has never been what it once was. There’s not a spot on the defense where they don’t need to fill a gap, but with having Dwight Freeney gone for a few years now, the Colts need to select someone who is plug and play ready and will help their run defense and pass rush out. Key is the most NFL ready DE in the draft and with the Colts run defense struggling expect them to take someone like Key early in the draft.

5. Oakland Raider: Selection- Harold Landry DE Boston College

  • Continuing the trend with Defensive End’s Harold Landry is someone who can help out a struggling 23rd ranked Raiders run defense who people thought we would good this season. Landry fits perfect in their defensive system. Oakland runs a 3-4 defense in which he is in at Boston College and with the help of All-Pro Linebacker Khalil Mack on the other side of the line, if the Raiders were to get Landry their defensive line would wreck havoc.

6. Los Angeles Chargers: Selection- Josh Allen QB Wyoming

  • With Chargers great and possible Hall of Famer Phillip Rivers in the end of his career, the Chargers are in need to find his Replacement. And look no further than under the radar Josh Allen. Allen may play at a small D-1 school but has the potential to be great at the next level. Allen can provide the Chargers with an unstoppable offense with running back Melvin Gordon, wide receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, and a young pass catching tight end in Hunter Henry. Allen has Cam Newton type talent with his ability to throw on the run, arm strength, and size. Since Allen is more athletic than Rivers, if selected he can help balance the offense out between throwing and running.

7. Chicago Bears: Selection- Minkah Fitzpatrick S Alabama

  • With the Bears on a rebuilding year, now starting Rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, they look to come a complete team within the next few years. Although they are in desperate need at wide receiver, Fitzpatrick is one of the best available player on the board and can drastically improve the Bears pass defense with his ball hawking skills. Bears also happen to have Fitzpatrick’s former teammate from Alabama Eddie Jackson who is also a safety. With the possibility of having these former teammates on the field together, their chemistry can pay dividends.

8. Cincinnati Bengals: Selection- Derwin James S Florida State

  • Although the Bengals and Andy Dalton are off to a rough start, they could take a quarterback at this spot, unfortunately for the there isn’t a quarterback good enough besides the three previously drafted available or this high of a pick. The two options the Bengals have at this pick is to either trade this pick for a late first round pick and others, or draft someone who can make a big impact on their team immediately. In that case the Bengals should take Derwin James. James is an all around stud athlete, who can help the Bengals in all facets of the defense. He has ball hawking ability, unbelievable play recognition, and great pursuit. He draws an immediate comparison to Malcolm Jenkins. James is easily a top five prospect, but i have him getting drafted here based on team needs and the chemistry that’s already built between Eddie Jackson and Minkah Fitzpatrick.

9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Selection- Orlando Brown Jr. OT Oklahoma

  • Since drafting Jameis Winston three years ago, the Buccaneers have had an issue with their offensive line. While drafting two lineman in the same draft as Winston they haven’t lived up to the hype. Tackle Donovan Smith has been average at best with his play at Left Tackle and really needs to step up to secure his starting role. Over the years the Bucs couldn’t get the run game going so they moved Ali Marpet from right tackle to right guard, hoping his talent could open holes up in the interior of the line. With the struggles of the offensive line the Bucs need to take someone like Brown who can open holes up and significantly improve their run games, as he has for Oklahoma this season.

10. Dallas Cowboys: Selection- Quenten Nelson OG Notre Dame

  • Since last season the Cowboys have lost multiple offensive linemen to different teams or retirement. Since then the Cowboys haven’t been who they were. The offensive line is struggling on the exterior and interior but they lost a lot of strength to the interior when Doug Free retired. Having someone like Nelson available at this spot, he can become an instant starter in Dallas protecting Dak and blocking for Zeke. Nelson’s stock has risen recently due to his power and help in the run game, Expect him to be a top 10 pick no matter how the draft order falls out.
