Destruction and Devastation in Puerto Rico

Has tweeting become the most important thing to Donald Trump? Does Mr. Trump care more about athletes taking a knee or Puerto Rico being hit with an enormous hurricane?

When does it become too late to care, Trump?

On Wednesday September 20th Puerto Rico (PR) was hit with Hurricane Maria. This storm was Category 4 followed by 150 MPH winds making landfall right on PR. The devastation and debt Puerto Rico is in should not go unnoticed, especially by the President of The United States.

It wasn’t until Tuesday, September 26th, six days after the end of Hurricane Maria that Trump made a statement at a press conference with the Spanish foreign Minister.  “All available resources, including the military, are being marshaled to save lives,” he said. “We have been really treated very, very nicely by the governor and everyone else.”  Trump also announced that the people of PR “are important to all of us.”

The people of the island are finding it hard to believe Trump’s statement since he failed to take a visit to the island or make the devastation important to America.

President Trump also tweeted, “Much of the island was destroyed, with billions of dollars owed to Wall Street and the banks which, sadly, must be dealt with.”

Puerto Rico is limited in their ability to communicate and their hope is  to fix what was destroyed, but Trump seems to focus on paying dues that Puerto Rico owes while it is struggling. His lack of empathy is dumbfounding to millions of people around the Country, and we pray for Puerto Rico in hopes of fixing what has been broken.
