The Wayne Education Association recently named Peter Strandes the Educator of the Year for 2017.

Strandes is an Algebra II teacher and a coach for the WHHS ski team. He has been a teacher at WHHS for 10 out of his 19-year teaching career.

“He’s a really great guy. I really look up to him as a teacher and a coach,” says senior Frank Fabiano, a member of the WHHS ski team.

A reception is being held on May 2nd to honor the winners of the award.

“My initial reaction was surprise,” Strandes comments.  “I felt very appreciative and had a humbling feeling,” he said of the award which is coordinated by the Wayne Education Association, the teacher’s union.  Each year, the association solicits nominees from its members in each of the district’s 14 schools.

After receiving the award he stated that he is working hard to not only represent himself but the other teachers in WHHS.
