This year’s spring musical, Mary Poppins is underway, with practices in full swing.

Mary Poppins is a series of books written by P.L. Travers. They were published through the periods of 1934 to 1988. The books center around a magical nanny, Mary Poppins, who is blown to 17 Cherry Tree Lane in London to care for the Banks’s children.

The Mary Poppins books were adapted into a musical film by Walt Disney in 1964, going by the same name as the books. The film starred Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins and Dick Van Dyke as Bert.

Mary Poppins was subsequently taken to Broadway, it ran in New York from 2006 until its closing on March 3, 2013.

Annie Pascale, a junior, landed the lead role as Mary Poppins while Frank Fabiano, a senior, earned the role of Bert. Junior Kyle Dunnigan will be playing Mr.Banks, and senior Shannah Harris will be playing Mrs. Banks. Sophomores Nicole Lampariello and Nieve Petrie will portray Jane Banks and Michael Banks respectively.

Suha Cho, a sophomore, will be playing Ms. Andrew. She said, “I think it’s a phenomenal play and it requires a lot of hard work. I think the cast can pull through and make it happen. We are all very excited.”

The shows will be held on March 23, 24, and 25, with two performances on the 25th.
