After an astonishing 50 years since Julie Andrews starred in the Disney classic film, Mary Poppins, a remake is in the works, set 20 years into the future. Recently, many Disney films have been remade to live action, includingBeauty and the Beast, Mulan, and Dumbo. The movies were a success, foreshadowing a bright future for the new film.

Set to direct is Into the Woods director, Rob Marshall, with Finding Neverland writer David Magee, and Hairspray and Smash songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. The show is said to be set out of the depression and into the 50s, with a new cast and the storyline of P.L Traver’s original children’s story books.

Unfortunately, the legendary Julie Andrews is unable to play the part due to age restrictions. Senior Giovanna Minervini adds, “Mary Poppins was my favorite childhood movie. Although it’s certainly going to be very different, I can’t wait to see it.” The new film should be as sweet as a spoonful of sugar, with new surprises expected out of the director’s bag!
