Popular Books Among the WHHS Students

By Natalia Aliotta, Staff Writer

As said by almost every librarian, books are a window to another world. Knowing this, students at WHHS enjoy reading during their free time to escape to an imaginative place where basically anything is possible.

Even though everyone has their own favorite genre, the most popular among students consists of fantasy, dystopia, romance, and sci-fi. Many girls favor Nicholas Sparks,  a popular author who wrote romance novels such as The Last Song, The Choice, and The Notebook. His books were published in previous years but are still highly recommended to be read.

“I’ve re-read The Last Song so many times, I’m obsessed with the book and the movie,” says Sophomore Emma Lombardi.

Other books such as Hush, Hush, Inhuman and The Mortal Instruments are popular as well. These books revolve around life in either a mundane or dystopian world and have characters such as fallen angels, demons, and half humans. “The characters in The Mortal Instruments can easily be fallen in love with. I love books that aren’t boring and always have some excitement,” said Sophomore Alex Wisely, who enjoys reading and writing.

Milk and Honey is also well liked. It’s a collection of poetry written by Rupi Kaur.  “Milk and Honey is an extremely raw perspective on the life of someone who has been through a lot. The author is an inspiration to many readers. She talks about the real world and how you can regain your values but for your own justifications. She teaches readers about what the real world is like – only in a few poems,” said Sophomore Katie Durot, an enthused reader. “This book makes you ugly cry, no doubt. I love the beauty this collection has. It teaches about life’s hard work and it’s consequences. I highly recommend,” said Sophomore Jen Cavallo. Milk and Honey is definitely worth a try to read.
