Cross Country Team Crushes Passaic Valley

By Katherine Kim

The WHHS all-star cross country team crushed Passaic Valley and West Milord last Tuesday at their meet, both the girls team and boys team came home victorious that evening. After their coach, Coach Bell, transferred to Ridgewood, Coach Staggers took over the team and trains the athletes almost every day. The cross country team practices outside no matter what the climate is, and all the athletes are very devoted to their beloved sport. According to athlete, Shea Brennan, Coach Bell had certain opinions on running in the rain, “He used to say, ‘You drink it, you bathe in it, you wash your clothes in it, you swim in it, so what’s the big deal about running in it?’, whenever it rained during our practice times”. I think it’s safe to say that the WHHS cross country team is extremely hardcore and very committed. It’s an enigma how our cross country athletes run for such a long time, so I talked to cross country star, Taylor Domico, to get her take on running. “It’s fun and definitely keeps you in shape,” says Domico,“sometimes it’s an unappreciated sport but it really teaches you to push through even when you feel like giving up.”  Crossing that finish line, she adds, “ feels good because I can finally catch my breath and it comes with a sense of accomplishment”.
