Sunday March 13, the Ivorian Beach Grand Bassam came under attack from three gunmen and 19 innocent civilians lost their lives. Al-Qaeda, an Islamic terrorist group, is the culprit of this heinous crime. The survivors of the attack believe the attack was an emulation of the bombings in France back in November 2015; this attack serves as a warning to the Ivory Coast and other allies of France. Al-Qaeda has claimed that any ally of France should reconsider their friendly relations, or they will be the group’s next victim in yet another deadly attack. When discussed with senior Sarah Shawki, she said “After the the bombing in France, and how bad that was I was hoping for something to be done globally and clearly nothing has been, 19 dead and more threats to France, something needs to be done.” Muslims have been warned to stay away from high tourist areas to avoid being casualties in future attacks, foreshadowing more chaos and violence to come.
