Accidental Shootings Result in Death and Injury

During the past week, the wife of a famous musician was killed and a four-year-old accidentally shot and wounded his mother – two more incidents of gun violence in the United States.

The four-year-old boy accidentally shot his pro-gun mother in the back in  Putnam County, Florida Tuesday, March 8, 2016. The boy is not being charged and sheriffs are calling it accidental. In Florida it is a misdemeanor to leave a loaded firearm where a child can obtain it. Jamie Gilt is in stable condition but has no comment on the event. The Florida Department of Children and Families Services has also joined the ongoing investigation to answer the burning question of how a 4-year-old got his hands on his mother’s .45-caliber gun.  Days before the shooting Gilt bragged about how well her son’s shooting skills are when she commented in a Facebook post, “Even my 4-year-old gets jacked up to target shoot with the .22.” According to police, detectives will not file any criminal charges against Gilt until they speak to her.

“Gun control laws should be more strict in the light of recent shooting. Legal officials should be more careful of who we allow to obtain guns. As the gun control law weakens, so does our country,” said sophomore Nikki Rigoli.

Ex-Eagles band member, Randy Meisner’s wife was accidently shot in the head and killed with a rifle on March 5 after something hit the gun and went off in her Studio City home. More than an hour before this tragic event, the Los Angeles Police Department had been at the Meisner home when a someone called about an intoxicated person in the home; police had filed a domestic violence report, but left soon thereafter. Lana Rae Meisner was in her closet moving the stored firearm when a different an item hit the case causing it to fire and fatally hit her in the head. When police arrived Meisner was pronounced dead at the scene.
