Governor’s Educators of the Year

By Carly Polay and Morgan Cassidy

This year, the Wayne Township public school system is recognizing our awarded Governor’s Educators of the Year. The award highlights educational innovation, student achievement, the rewards of teaching, and important services outside the classroom environment that lead to student success. It also seeks to attract public attention to the positive aspects of our educational system. A teacher and a specialist from each school within the district are selected for this award. These individuals are selected because of their greatness and involvement within the school. At WHHS, Andrew Poalillo and Nancy Kowalski were selected. Nancy Kowalski is a school counselor and has been working in the field for 23 years. She has had an immense impact on her students’ lives and strives to continue helping and watching them grow. Andrew Poalillo is a member of the teaching staff of the math department and has been a teacher at WHHS for 8 years. He also leads many clubs for the school. Poalillo is the advisor for NHS, helps with SDA, and runs the Random Acts of Kindness club. Both Kowalski and Poalillo represent the best that WHHS has to offer and show that the teachers truly make a difference for the school.

“I love being part of this school and watching my students grow. Sometimes I even learn from my students and I always leave at the end of the day feeling content and happy. I hope to continue working here for a long time,” says Wayne Hills teacher Andrew Poalillo.
