As we all know, soccer season is currently in session, and both our boys and girls squads are looking good heading into the end of their regular season. The boys team lead by Coach Rehberger, are 5-4-1, with 5 games left in their regular season, plus their county game coming up. This Saturday you can catch the boys at 1:00 pm vs another Wayne school, Passaic Tech, which should be a good one on our home turf to see who moves on in the tournament.
Similarly, the girls team, lead by Coach Ademi, holds a record of 6-4-1, with 4 of those wins being by more than 4 goals. The girls will play at 10:30 am on the same Saturday, 10/11, matching up against a Clifton team, which they beat earlier on in the season. In the last 7 games for this girls team, they have won five, and tied one, which should be great momentum for their upcoming matchups.
This year has been a new experience for all the players in both soccer programs. With that comes new challenges, new opportunities, and new roles. Every year people have new thoughts on their sport, and exciting thoughts on the season they are in.
This year, a captain for the girls team, Caroline Holton says, “ We play like one team, one family.” She as well as other captains Phoebe Link, and Star Vorabouth, are definitely doing something right this year, leading their roster to a successful season so far.

The boys team had lots of spots to fill after losing tons of graduates this past year. What is different from this season to the previous season in their eyes?
Captain Tyler Winston told us, “We may not be as skillful as years in the past, but we have a good team bond this year and are playing more connected this year.” For all sports, the connection you have and you build throughout the season can mean a lot for the quality of play on the field too.

Star Vorabouth states, “ This year the team feels way more together rather than divided.” She also says, “The team is more on the younger side unlike the past 3 years.” She has grown with the team going from one of the youngest players on varsity, to now being the leader who will be playing soccer in college at Dominican University.
Players on a varsity field have something that makes them unique, and a good aspect to their team. No matter if it’s saving shots, clearing balls, or making the right play into the box. For both teams in Wayne Hills soccer program, all players make an impact while playing, and maybe even their energy on the sideline just brings a spark to the team.
4 year varsity player, Nolan Kahrar adds, “It’s not about the size of the dog in the fight, it’s about the size of the fight in the dog.”

With winter being right around the corner, don’t lose sight of these soccer teams, especially with the playoffs almost here. Keep supporting both the boys and the girls, and show love to all the great athletes that play soccer this year. Finish the season strong Wayne Hills High School Soccer!
