The Wayne Hills Girls Soccer team did not come to play this year.

With a disappointing loss in the state semi-finals against Sparta last year, the girls are coming back to make it even further. It was a sad way to end the season but new head coach Bjonda Ademi is putting in everything to get this talented team some wins. Wayne Hills Girls Soccer stays strong with their 11-3-1 record while hoping to add a few more wins this season.

The girls were having a great season but they experienced a bump in the road with a devastating loss against Hawthorne in the county quarter finals. The team has come back with three important wins last week. On Tuesday October 10th, they came out with a strong 5-0 win against Fair Lawn. Juniors Blake Nisenson, Mia Bachionni, and Charah Sysentone scored the goals for this game. The following Thursday, Wayne Hills took on cross town rivals Wayne Valley and came through with a 2-0 win. Senior Sophia Bradley and Junior Mia Bachionni were the goal scorers this game. That Saturday the soccer team took on Mahwah during a very rainy morning. They pulled through with a 2-1 win. The leading goals scorers for this match were Mia Bachionni and Sophia Bradley. These were much needed wins especially after an unfortunate knockout from the county tournament.

They had an amazing senior night on Tuesday October 17th where they won over Clifton 4-1. It was a very enjoyable game to watch with a wonderful senior ceremony before the game. 13 hardworking seniors were honored for their commitment and dedication through their high school soccer careers. On October 19, they won their last league game against West Milford 3-0 making them co-conference champs with Wayne Valley. The team is going strong with 12 shutouts this season with Danielle Iannelli in goal. The girls are training hard for the state tournament coming up.

Assistant coach Mr. Vincent Porta coached Ms. Ademi when she was a player at Wayne Hills. He came back this year because he felt there is a very talented and great group of girls. Mr Porta says, “The experience has been unbelievable. Im so excited to be with these girls and I’m so happy they invited me along for the journey.” He is excited to be a part of a group with a strong winning mentality and the potential to win big things.

The Wayne Hills Girls Soccer team has had a great season and are hoping to continue to keep up with these wins in the State tournament. The next game is Saturday, October 21st at 10 am. The game is vs. Montclair away.
