Recently, the Wayne Hills Boys Ice Hockey team had fought their way into the County Championship. The Patriots were the two-seed, and Lakeland was the one seed. In a battling effort, both teams competed to win the Passaic County Tournament in Floyd Hall Arena in Little Falls. Unfortunately, Hills lost to Lakeland by a score of 7-3.

At the start, Hills took the lead with an early goal from Phil Pawlak to take the lead 1-0 after only 51 seconds of the game. Shortly after, Lakeland came back by scoring four unanswered goals to take control of the game. The Patriots, led by goals from Senior Phil Pawlak and Junior Dean Hulbert, got within 4-3 in the second period. But Mullin from Lakeland had scored with a few seconds left in the middle frame to put Lakeland back up by a pair.

For Lakeland, Broderick and Davison each added an empty-netted goal in the final minute to seal Lakeland’s second consecutive Passaic County Tournament title. Both wins have come at the expense of Wayne Hills.
