Shawn Mendes canceled his “Wonder” tour this summer to focus on his mental health due to the pandemic. Shawn Mendes claimed he wanted to take time for himself.

“I started this tour excited to finally get back to playing live after a long break due to the pandemic, but the reality is I was not at all ready for how difficult touring would be after this time away,” he said in a post on social media on July 27. “It has become more clear that I need to take the time I’ve never taken personally, to ground myself and come back stronger.”

Mendes started his music career and began touring when he was 15 years old. He released his first single “Life of the Party” on June 26, 2014. Recently Shawn released his 4th studio album ‘Wonder’ in December 2020. He succeeded through the years by becoming the youngest artist since Justin Bieber to have a number-one album. Shawn Mendes won more than 121 awards during his career. Even through all his success, he’s dealt with mental challenges and been open about it to his fans. Shawn was in a two-and-a-half-year relationship with popstar Camila Cabello. However, they called it quits in November of 2021.  Due to the breakup, he felt alone, especially during the pandemic, he said in a video that he posted on his Instagram.

The pandemic caused him to deal with many mental challenges. On September 20, 2021, Shawn announced that his “Wonder” tour was going to come to Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States on June 27, 2022. As tickets were sold the next week, tickets were sold out quickly and many fans were very excited. On July 9th he postponed three weeks of his wonder tour due to his mental battles. He declared that all the pressure of being back on the road finally hit him and hit a breaking point. On July 27, 2022, he posted on his Instagram a passage that was sent out to his fans claiming that he would be canceling his whole tour to work on his mental health.  In the same passage, he also wrote that he would keep on making music. Shawn wrote, “We were hopeful that I might be able to pick up with the rest of the dates after some much-needed time off, but at this time I have to put my health as my first priority. This doesn’t mean I won’t be making new music, and I can’t wait to see you on tour in the future.”

Fans were upset when hearing the news of the cancellation of his tour, however, most fans were very supportive. Fans tweeted and posted showing their love and support. One fan tweeted out to Shawn, “Take all the time you need to heal, we’re gonna be with you when you’re ready. your health matters the most, always! We love you so much, Shawn.”

Even brands like Tommy Hilfiger said, “We admire your courage and fully support you, Shawn. Sending our love,” and iheartradio commented “Proud of you for taking care of yourself! We love you.”

Pop star Tate Mcrae who was set to open for Shawn praised him for taking time for himself. “I’m so sad that I can’t see you guys, but I also want to make sure that Shawn’s doing what’s best for his mental health and he’s taking care of himself because you can be a really demanding process and it can be really really hard mentally,” Mcrae states. She was very upset, but she is happy that he is taking this time to get better for himself and the fans.

Shawn has been living his best life, taking time for himself, going on vacation, and hanging out with friends, such as the pop star The Weeknd. He also went to New York fashion week with Tommy Hilfiger who has supported him through everything and became the voice of the star of the new animated movie called “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” set to release on October 7th.
