March Madness: one of the biggest events in all of college sports. This week, the final four teams in the women’s tournament will be facing off in Minneapolis. The teams include No.1 seed Stanford, No. 2 seed UCONN, No. 1 seed Louisville, and No. 1 seed South Carolina… three of which competed in the Final Four last year.

On Friday, April 1st at 7:00 p.m., the Louisville Cardinals and the South Carolina Gamecocks will face off. Aliyah Boston of South Carolina and Hailey Van Lith of Louisville will be a fun match-up to watch. Senior Becky Jenkins says, “I don’t know a lot about the teams in the final four this year, but I’ve heard a lot of talk about Louisville taking home a trophy.” Van Lith is the first Louisville player to have four consecutive 20-point games in the NCAA tournament. Emily Engstler is also a threat to look out for on the team. She assists her team in things like stealing balls, pressing, rebounding, and blocking shots.

Despite this, the South Carolina Gamecocks did not come empty-handed. The girls lead the country in opponents’ field goal percentage, effective field goal percentage, and points per play. They are also said to be the best defensive rebounding team in the nation. A hot player to look out for is Destanni Henderson, who has been on fire with shooting in the Elite Eight.

Following directly after this game the Uconn Huskies will take on the Stanford Cardinals. The Uconn girls will be going on their 14th straight Final Four and this year will be special considering they are home to the National Player of the Year, Paige Bueckers, and superstar Azzi Fudd. Senior Sydney Licerio said, “I’m super excited to watch Paige play, especially cause she’s been out for a lot of the season with an injury.”

The Stanford Cardinals, winners of last years Final Four are coming into this game with a 23-game winning streak, so it will be difficult for them to lose their momentum. The Cardinals also hold two of the three best players in the Final Four… Cameron Brink and Haley Jones, so this team is definitely a fan favorite.

Make sure to watch out for who will be determined to play the final game on Sunday, April 3rd.
