With multiple returning seniors, Wayne Knights came into the game on Friday, November 26, with revenge in their minds.

In the previous season, the Knights ended with a 5-7-2 record, with senior Josh Flom saying he was, “not satisfied.” As six returning seniors took the ice against a talented Indian Hills team, only one thing was on their mind… to win.

The first period started with the Knights taking a commanding lead of 2-0. Senior forward Luke Hulbert found the back of the net during a power play with senior forward Joey Riina assisting him. As the first period came to an end Knights found themselves another goal, led by junior forward Josh Shpungin and assisted by junior forward Chris Wolfsohn.

The second period began with Hills leading a 3-0 lead as sophomore forward, Michael Brogna scored with only a minute and a half elapsed time. Soon after Jake Willis of Indian Hills secured their first goal leading to the second period score of 3-1. In the third period, Indian Hills were able to score another goal but also conceded 2. Brady Vella scored for Indian Hills while Luke Hulbert and Michael Brogna each scored a goal, putting the game away at a final score of 5-2.

With back to back games, the Knights were eagerly looking for their next win. The next game, however, was against a very strong Lakeland team. The Knights have found themselves losing in every matchup against Lakeland for the past four years so for these seniors, it was a must-win game.

Players on the team expected a tough game against Lakeland. Josh Flom said “I expected them to come out hard and play a physical game. We just need to beat them with our speed.” As the Knights took the ice and the bleachers got filled, the tension was at an all time high. The Knights got off to a great start with Chris Wolfsohn scoring two goals within 30 seconds of one another. The first period was coming to a close, but not before Lakeland scored two of their own (by Charlie Wogisch & Sami Essabbar).

After the 1st period the Wayne Knights dominated the ice scoring another 3 goals in the 2nd Period and 5 goals in the 3rd period while not conceding a single goal. Senior Luke Hulbert and sophomore Michael Brogna each scored 1 goal in the 2nd period and 2 in the 3rd. While the other goals were scored by junior Chris Wolfsohn in the 2nd period and senior Joey Riina in the 3rd.

The Knights, excelling against Lakeland, hope to carry this momentum with them into this week’s game against the very talented Ramapo team. The players will take the ice again on December 3rd at the Ice Vault at 7 pm.
