Soccer fans around the world are in complete shock after Argentinian soccer star Lionel Messi was crowned with the 2021 Ballon d’Or in Paris at a ceremony on November 29th, 2021.

Messi is a 34-year-old soccer player who plays for the French club Paris-Saint-Germain. He is widely regarded as the greatest soccer player of all time by his fans. The Ballon d’Or honors the player who is perceived to put in the best performance for the year. The voting process works by combining a jury of journalists. These journalists are given the duty of voting for the players they feel are the best fit first, second, and third place.

Messi won the Ballon d’Or with 613 votes. The runners-up were Robert Lewandowski with 580 votes and Jorginho with 460 votes.

Millions of fans across the globe feel that the Paris-Saint-Germain player is undeserving of the title of being the best player of the year. They think that Lewandowski out-performed Messi and should have won instead.

Wayne Hills Senior Matt Kneis believes that Messi should not have been given the award.

“I think Messi won it based on past achievements because of bias. Lewandowski didn’t get what he deserved for breaking numerous scoring records this past year”.

After claiming the award, Messi praised Lewandoski for his outstanding achievements last year as well as this year. He also said that Lewandowski was deserving of being the winner in 2020.

He said, “Everyone knows and we agree that you were the winner last year. I think France Football should award you your 2020 Ballon d’Or – you deserve it and you should have it at home”.

“I think Robert Lewandowski had a great year. Year after year, he improves and shows the excellent striker he is, as well as his ability to score goals. This year he was awarded as the top scorer. Of course, he can certainly aspire to that level next year, thanks to his way of being on that pitch. And in addition, he plays for a big club”.

These comments earned the respect of Wayne Hills Senior Josh da Silva.

“I feel that Messi is without a doubt always an excellent player every year but even he had admitted that maybe he wasn’t the most deserving of the award. I also respect him for acknowledging Lewandowski who was one of the fan favorites to win the trophy,” da Silva said.

Although some fans will argue that Messi is deserving of being the winner of the 2021 Ballon d’Or, the vast majority of football fans will say that another player is more worthy of the Ballon d’Or.

Messi currently does not have any thoughts about stopping soon. His contract continues with Paris-Saint-Germain until June 2023, with the option of playing an extra year.
