New England Patriots dominate the New York Jets

By David Valdes

Sunday’s football game in Week 7 was an amazing show for the New England Patriots as they blew out the New York Jets 54 – 13 in the Patriots stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The Jets defense could not contain Mac Jones, the Patriots quarterback, and the rest of his offense.

Despite the Patriots’ losing record of 3-4, they had a spectacular game against the New York Jets. The team totaled 403  passing yards and 148 rushing yards. The Patriot’s offense was playing such a good game that one of their receivers, Kendrick Bourne, was able to get a passing touchdown. On a trick play, Bourne threw a 25-yard touchdown to his teammate Nelson Agholor. The starting quarterback, Mac Jones, had a great game as well. He threw for a total of 307 yards, 2 touchdowns, 0 interceptions, and 66% pass completion. Jones threw the football to 11 different players including Brandon Bolden, Kendrick Bourne, and Nelson Agholor. The Patriots running back, Damien Harris, also had a great game on the ground. He had 14 carries, 106 yards, and 2 touchdowns. The defense for the Patriots was not super outstanding but it got the job done. It was led in stats by safety Kyle Dugger who had 6 tackles, 2 assists, and 1 interception.

The Jets did not have nearly as good of a game as the Patriots though. They could only get 237 passing yards and 62 rushing yards. The quarterback playing for them was Mike White and he had 202 passing yards, 1 touchdown, 2 interceptions, and 63% pass completion. The receiver who caught his one touchdown was Corey Davis who went for 4 receptions and 47 yards. On the defensive side for the Jets, safety Ashtyn Davis had 10 tackles and 1 assist.

It has been a well-known fact in the NFL community that the Jets have not been the greatest team in the league. Even though they are not the greatest, they do have some very loyal fans. Here is what freshman and Jets fan, Christian Soreal, had to say about their performance this week, “I think the jets played very poorly. Bill Belichick killed us this week and he will continue to do so against rookie QBs. They ran the football over us since we didn’t have C.J. Mosely (Jets Linebacker). I feel pretty confident in them for the future because they have so many picks in the upcoming NFL draft. Hopefully, we can get some offensive lineman to protect our QB of the future.”

The Patriots look to be continuing their win streak when they verse the Los Angeles Chargers next week. The Jets will be going up against the Cincinnati Bengals next week and that is a game where the outcome could be on either side.

In other parts of the league, unusual scores have been very common this week.

The Cincinnati Bengals played a great game against the infamous Baltimore Ravens, beating them 41-17 in their home stadium in Maryland. This is thanks to the Bengal’s young quarterback Joe Burrow, who threw 416 yards, 3 touchdowns, 1 interception, and 61% pass completion.

On the other side of the U.S. in Arizona, the Houston Texans had an unusual score of 5 in their loss against the Arizona Cardinals. In the first quarter, Texans defensive end Jacob Martin was able to get a safety by sacking Arizona QB Kyler Murray. In the second quarter, the Texans obtained the other 3 points off of a 53-yard field goal by kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn.  Back on the east coast, the Giants finally added another win to their record in a 25 – 3 game against the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers have been on a 4 game losing streak ever since the loss of their star running back, Christian McCaffrey in Week 3 against the Texans, when he hurt his hamstring. After a 2-yard run, McCaffrey came up hopping on one leg and went immediately to a medical tent on the sideline. Hopefully, we get to see McCaffrey return in the coming weeks, as he is one of the most entertaining players to watch.
