In Denver, the Broncos beat the New England Patriots for their first loss of the season. Broncos starting quarterback Peyton Manning had suffered a season ending foot injury against the Kansas City Chiefs the previous week. Replaced by the backup quarterback Brock Osweiler, facing the undefeated Patriots at home didn’t quite seem to bother him.

Last Sunday night, the 25-year-old quarterback had made his first career start at home in the snow at Sports Authority Field. The drama had all started in the fourth quarter when Denver decided to fight back. When the Patriots lost yet another trusted target after star tight end Rob Gronkowski had suffered a right knee injury with nearly three minutes left in the game, this was Denver’s time to attack. The Broncos took the lead after Osweiler threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Bubba Caldwell with 1:09 left in the game to put Denver ahead 24-21. But Brady needed just five plays to march down the field for 51 yards and into range for Stephen Gostkowski‘s 47-yard field goal with no time left.

Sending the game into overtime, the Broncos won it when running back C.J. Anderson raced 48 yards down Denver’s sideline with 12:32 left in overtime. The momentum had favored the Broncos after it’s powerful defense forced a three-and-out including a big sack by Von Miller and a huge hit by Shane Ray.”It was a classic ending for a team who’s starter gets hurt when they turn to the backup quarterback to take down the undefeated Patriots,” mentioned senior Jason Cote.  In total, the Broncos ran for 179 yards, but C.J. Anderson alone rushed for 113 yards with two TDs on 15 carries. Osweiler went 23 of 42 with 270 passing yards with one touchdown and an interception on a deflected pass. Brady also went 23 of 42 throwing for 280 passing yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions.
