The Wayne Hills Baseball Team had a very successful season that did not end in a County Title like they would’ve hoped, but they made it to the quarterfinal round of the tournament, where they fell to a very good West Essex Team, 11-1.  The Patriots went 15-8 in the regular season overall, including an impressive 7-3 record in league play.

The team is led by seniors Pat Gilmore, Dean Hulbert, Mason Smith, and Jason Modak. The team also carries seven other seniors, and they all had good seasons and contributed to the team’s success. The team carries eight juniors and one lone sophomore, Christian Puntolillo. The players pride themselves on being team players and all doing their job and produce when called upon. That is why the team is so successful, they all buy in and play their role.

Some of Wayne Hills’ best wins this season include a 13-5 win over rival Wayne Valley on April 17th, a 14-2 win over Kennedy on April 20th, an 8-3 win over David Brearley High School on May 1st, and a 14-11 win against PV on April 9th. This team definitely has an explosive offense and can put up runs in a hurry if they get hot.

Overall, Coach Bas’ team had a quite successful season. They had an impressive showing in the regular season and made it to the Quarterfinals of the County Tournament, and they can take this loss and a learning moment and improve on the things they struggled in. Plus, with an incoming crop of fresh talent and rising seniors, the baseball team will look to get even better next spring.
