The Billboard Music Awards will air on Sunday, May 20th and unlike other awards such as the MTV VMA’s or Grammy’s which determine nominations as a result of the highest votes, the Billboard Music Awards finalists are based on album and digital songs sales, streaming, etc.

“Out of all the award shows The Billboard Music Awards is my favorite one to watch, I really enjoy it”  Tina Scura, senior, says.

The nomination categories are as follows: Top Artist, Top New Artist, Billboard Chart Achievement Award, Top Male Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Duo/Group, Top Rap Artist, Top Country Artist, Top Selling Album, Top Selling Song, along with many other sub-categories. Artists in lead are Kendrick Lamar, Ed Sheeran, and Bruno Mars with 15 nominations. All three artists are also up for Top Artist against Drake and Taylor Swift.

“I watch the Billboard Music Awards every year so I’m really looking forward to this year’s especially because there are so many new artists,” says freshman Kendra Levendusky.

This year Cardi B is up for Top New Artist along with 21 Savage, Camilla Cabello, Khalid, and Kodak Black. Top Male Artist is between Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars, Post Malone, and Ed Sheeran.
