If you were making a prediction about who would be leading the league in Home Runs and you thought a Yankee would be doing so, it wouldn’t be all that much of a surprise. However, it isn’t mammoth sluggers Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, or even Gary Sanchez that are accomplishing this feat, it’s the Yankees beloved short stop Sir Didi Gregorius.

Gregorius, as of April 29, is hitting .356 (second in the Majors), tied first with Mike Trout at ten Home Runs, first in RBIs at 30, and is tied for third in runs scored at 24. Gregorius is a bonafide star in a league that is seemingly overrun with young superstar short stops. In the top short stop lists, you see names like Carlos Correa, Francisco Lindor, Corey Seager, and Javier Baez at the top, but Didi is nowhere to be found. Gregorius has always been a very underrated player, but everyone who watches the Yankees knows he is as talented as they come, and also has the clutch gene another famous Yankees short stop had (hint his name is Derek).

This might be due to the star power the Yankees have as Judge, Stanton, and Sanchez have all been in the headlines throughout the offseason, but Didi has finally put everyone on notice. He is by far the best producing Yankee in a loaded lineup rotating between the three hole and batting clean up. Didi has arugably been the best hitter in the league in this young season, and he has also been backing that up with above average defense.

In fact, Gregorius has played so well this season, the idea of the Yankees handing superstar Manny Machado a humongous contract and the short stop position seems far fetched now as the Yankees have number 18 leading their team.

Didi is snack in the middle of his prime and it’s amazing to watch. If he keeps this pace up, he will be in the AL MVp consideration. Besides that, hopefully he can lead the Yankees to a 28th World Series Title.

Didi Gregorius sent out a tweet in the offseason saying “@AaronBoone [Yankees Manager] Hey skip am i still batting 4th???” after the Yankees acquired NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton, joking that he would have to relinquish a role higher up in the Yankees batting order to fit in the Yankees big bats. All Didi has done from here was lock up that number three spot in the lineup and prove he is not only among the greatest short stops in the game, but among the greatest players in general.
