May 11th at 7:30 p.m. marks the date and time of the first show of the YMCA’s production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at the Wayne YMCA on Pike Drive.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a Tony Award-winning musical based on a book and centered around an eager group of incoming sixth graders arriving at the 25th annual Putnam County spelling bee. Each participant in the spelling bee faces a different conflict, ranging from dealing with puberty to distraction to solely trying to impressing one’s parents. This comedical musical uses a series of engaging tunes to ultimately tell the tale of each speller’s hopes, tales, and struggles as they make their way through the competition.

The musical is a two-cast production, and several WHHS students are peforming. Performances will be held on May 11-13. Tickets can be preordered for $16 or bought at the door for $20. Be sure to pre order your tickets because tickets are sure to sell out with a cast like this!

Sophomore Kyla Gallipoli, otherwise known as main character  “Olive” in the production excitedly encourages all people to come to this charming musical. She states, “This show is a work of comedical genius! The cast has all worked so hard and we are excited to put on a great show.”  With enthusiasm like this, one can only expect an even more enthusiastic performance!

Ticket and additional information can be found on the YMCA website. Spelling Bee contains some profanity and suggestive content, so parents should consider keeping younger children at home.
