Boys Lacrosse Team Looks to Win Third County Title

By Jacob Waxman, Staff Writer

Led by Coach Marc Jacobson, the Wayne Hills Boys Lacrosse team is looking to keep up its previous ranking and claim the title for  Passaic County Champions once more, thus winning their third County Championship in program history.

The team finished its last season with a record of 14-5, consequently capturing the Passaic County Title. Entering the season, the team was left with the task of finding a starting goalie, two starting defense-men, and two attack-men. Current seniors and captains Scott Fischgrund and Dario Sirni are optimistic about filling these spots for the upcoming season. Sirni exclaimed, “I don’t think it will be hard to fill the seniors spots from last year.  About 4-5 starting seniors graduated last year and so far our young guys have been stepping up tremendously.”

With a new season comes new talent and improved teams all throughout the Passaic County. Last year the Wayne Hills team was able to beat DePaul Catholic in the County Finals, and the team has all the determination in the world to claim that trophy again at the end of the upcoming season. No lacrosse team in county history has won back to back county titles, and this 2018 Wayne Hills Boys Lacrosse Team wants to be the first to do so. Captain Fischgrund enthusiastically said, “I think at this point in the season, the counties are ours to win. We have talent at every position and more depth than any Hills team ever has.”

Every year, two weeks into the season, the team takes a three day trip for the purpose of scrimmaging against out of state teams. This year, the team has already made its journey to Maryland and scrimmaged five teams: C.M. Wright, Nothern, Broadneck, River Hill, and Centennial. The Wayne Hills team came back with a 5-0 victory  for the weekend! Even more so, during the trip the team practiced at Towson University in Johnny Unitas Stadium and spectated a Men’s lacrosse practice at Johns Hopkins University.

All in all, the boys are, ” buzzin.” They know what it takes to bring home another county championship  to Wayne Hills, and they can’t wait for the lacrosse season to begin!
