How Good Can Duke Be For The 2018-2019 College Basketball Season?

The 2017-2018 college basketball season is right in its prime stage. It is almost time for March Madness and rivalry week is right around the corner. That doesn’t mean that teams can’t start planning ahead for next season. The top teams are trying to get the highest recruits possible. Yet, it just seems like only one team is stealing all of the top recruits. That team would be the Duke Blue Devils.

Duke is going to be looking scary good going into the 2018-2019 season or at least on paper they look scary good. They got the top 3 recruits in that nation as well as the number one ranked point guard in the nation. In order of rank, these are their recruits: R.J. Barret, Zion Williamson, Cameron Reddish, and Tre Jones.

R.J. Barret is a stud. He is really supposed to be the #1 recruit in the 2019 class, but he reclassified to 2018 class just like fellow and current Duke alum Marvin Bagley III. He is a small forward who can shoot, dribble, defend, drive through contact and has great athleticism. He attends Montverde Academy right now and they are the number one ranked high school team in the whole country. R.J. Barret will look to play the shooting guard position when he gets to Duke next year.

Zion Williamson is electrifying. He is probably the most known out of the four. He is most known because he does insane dunks during games. He was doing windmill posters at 16! His athleticism is off the charts and he can be the most dominant force to reckon with when he gets to Duke. There are two negatives for him though. One of them being his height which he is 6’6 but listed as a power forward which is not an ideal size for that position. Also, he can’t shoot the ball that very well as the other recruits in the country. He is now attending Spartanburg Day school. Don’t doubt him though as he can jump with and over anyone that is in the gym.

Cameron Reddish is an athletic 6’7 small forward. He is basically the same as R.J. Barret except he boasts better athleticism. Redish can be relied upon to get buckets whenever and wherever as he can stretch the floor with his nice looking jumper. He is also a leader on the floor as well and will look to help carry their young team next season. He is now attending Westtown School.

Tre Jones is simply just not the brother of Duke great Tyus Jones. He could even be better then Tyus Jones. Tre Jones can shoot. He has excellent dribbling skills and court vision. His athleticism is very underrated as he has posterized many kids in high school at his career at Apple Valley High School. He will look to be the facilitator and general of the floor.

This has never been done before in the ESPN recruiting era where the top three recruits have committed to going to the same school. Even more, history can be made after the season as all of these guys are locks for the lottery and they can go consecutively in the draft. Duke will be looking to bring back some core guys from this season to help with the inexperience from the new recruits for next season. Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski has done a wonderful job over the years in recruiting players, but this could have the potential to be his best one yet. Duke is the favorites to win next years title. Yet only time will tell if this inexperienced but extremely talented team will have what it takes to hang a banner in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
