Swim Team Goes to Counties; Cassandra Lee Named Female Athlete of the Week

The Wayne Hills Swim Team, led by coaches Jacqueline Bayliss and Michael Shale, recently competed in the all-county swim meet at Passaic County Technical Institute on January 6th.

A total of seven different teams competed in the meet: PCTI, Wayne Hills, Wayne Valley, Lakeland, Clifton, DePaul, and Passaic. The girls team placed second behind PCTI with a total of 331.3 points while the boys team placed third behind PCTI and Wayne Valley with 192.4 points.

Senior swimmer Cassandra Lee was recently featured as the Female Athlete of the Week on northjersey.com after breaking the Passaic County 100 meter butterfly record with a time of 1:00.37 and becoming the first female swimmer to ever win the event four years in a row.

Sam Lindsay, a current senior commented, saying how “the whole country [meet] experience is what some other teams don’t get to experience” and that her last meet was “bittersweet.”

Angelina Lamanna, a current sophomore that she “had a great time” at the meet and that it was “entertaining watching people swim.”

The team is currently training hard and preparing for a heated meet against Valley on January 20th and their League meet on January 25th.
