The alarm clock reads 7:10 as you frantically search through your closet. Clothes are strewn on the floor, various patterns and styles of the past. “I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!”, you scream hysterically. If this is you, you might benefit from seeing some of your peers’ opinions on the latest fashion trends. Read about polka dots, low-waisted jeans, and Adidas Sambas and whether they “are in” or not.
Many popular fashion trends are in this year. Some are comebacks, and others are new and fresh. The trends range from wide-legged pants to cropped shirts. Some shirt trends are babydoll tops, tube tops, tank tops, and even baby tees.
Do you like sneakers? If so, you’ve probably heard about (or seen) the Adidas Sambas or Campuses at least once! These two pairs of sneakers are everywhere! As for accessories, Kaitlyn Nussbaum, a senior at Wayne Hills High School, says, “ Headbands. Claw-clips. Sambas, campuses. park sweatshirts. Comfy sets. I feel like low-waisted is coming back. Like flare jeans.” These are some of the clothes that she has seen everywhere, and that are trendy. The brand Lululemon is having a huge impact on the ways teenagers dress-mostly teenage girls. For example, Lulu (what people call Lululemon) is making athleisure more trendy.
Enough about what’s in, let’s talk about what’s out. We asked three students what they think is an overrated fashion trend. Halima Gaber, a twelfth-grader, considers it an unnecessary trend. She responded that she was “over jorts”. Jorts have long been a dividing topic between fashion critics. Some believe it’s unique and stylish. However, others–like the writers at W Magazine– believe that it’s “Not pretty, and not chic”.
Furthermore, Essentials hoodies are another dying fashion trend, according to Belma Yildirim. When we asked her about a trend she didn’t appreciate, she responded, “I’m lowkey tired. I see them every day. Enough. It’s been 4-5 years”. While people might disagree that Essentials is dying out, there’s no denying their popularity and how common they’ve become. Because of the significant correlation between a clothing trend gaining popularity very quickly and going out just as quickly, we can assume that Essentials will soon face its doom. Kaitlyn Nussbaum also included ripped jeans in the trend graveyard. Ripped jeans, what used to be a closet staple, are now becoming less and less popular. While they persist in streetwear and similar styles, they’re not exactly a fan-favorite anymore. This being said, fashion is subjective, and everyone has their own style. So, what some people think is out might be your favorite trend. Like they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure!
There are so many trends this year. Things that are seen as cringy that didn’t used to be, and things that are seen as cool that didn’t used to be. What are your opinions on trends? Let us know by voting on this poll to see what trends other people think are in.
