“Don’t let someone make you doubt your desires or passions, be confident and do things for yourself.”
Meet Julia Sandler, a spirited person who has a love for both adventure and the deep blue sea. From a young age, she has always been captivated by the world beneath the waves, spending her time combing through the internet, finding out anything and everything she could about ocean life– just wishing she could interact with it in person, like the marine biologists she has always envied. This passion of hers has been carried with her, her entire life.
“I don’t remember ever wanting to be anything else,” she remarked.
Julia’s ambition and hard work in school are a clear reflection of her passion for marine biology. Her academic journey has been marked with late nights studying, cramming for her many tests– striving for the good grades that she hoped would be good enough for her dream college, the University of Delaware.
Julia strives for knowledge and to gain experience with marine biology by going above and beyond to seek out opportunities outside the classroom. By some chance, she found the perfect pre-college program for marine biology, that was exactly what she was looking for to experience the rush of working in this field. This program allowed Julia and other interested students to travel to Curacao, where they lived for three weeks taking classes, learning how to care for endangered ocean species, and even getting to go out in the ocean where she scuba dived and deep swam with the sea life. “It was a once in a lifetime experience, I miss it everyday,” Julia reminisced.
Not only does Julia’s unique passion make her stand out, but her positive and kind attitude is truly infectious. Julia has made an impact on so many, having the ability to make anyone around her feel at ease, no matter the situation– Julia’s energy always has a way of lightening the mood. Lexi Bonczek, one of Julia’s friends, commented on how Julia has impacted her, “Julia always has such a positive attitude and it eventually rubbed off on me. She taught me that nothing is ever that serious.”
But what really makes Julia stand out is her sense of humor. She has a natural gift for always making people laugh, often with her witty observations and light-hearted jokes. Julia has a way of making even the most mundane moments into something fun. Lexi says the most notable thing about Julia’s personality is, “her humor, and ability to make everyone laugh.”
Julia is very excited to be recently committed to the University of Delaware. She is overwhelmed with joy and excitement over this new upcoming chapter, she has always been dreaming about. She is eager to discover a whole new world.
