Lately, things have been heated between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. In the start of their careers they collaborated on each other’s records. Through the years shade was thrown at each other in the past but this recent blow up in back to back songs caught everyone’s eye.
Lamar’s most recent aim at Drake, “Not Like Us” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. However, one of Drake’s diss tracks is also seeing a good amount of success. Drakes native’s song “Family Matters” also debuted and sparked a good amount of fans. These weren’t just any regular songs hating on each other; it was about each other’s lives and Drake’s fatherhood.
On May 5, Drake dropped “The Heart Part 6,” in which he denied Lamar’s allegations that he likes underage girls and is hiding another child. He raps towards Drake’s son, saying, “Dear Adonis, I’m sorry that man is your father.” Drake denied the allegations and in addition to alleging Drake his associates made up information about having a secret daughter for Lamar to use in a future song.
Drake says the people Kendrick is getting his information about Drake from are “clowns,” and that Drake’s team planted fake stories about an 11-year-old daughter to see if Kendrick would take the bait. Fans are now waiting for more tracks from Kendrick, a 17-time Grammy winner from the Compton neighborhood of Los Angeles and Drake, a five-time Grammy winner from Toronto, Canada.
People have been choosing sides on the internet or making accounts to support who they think won this “diss battle.”
Freshman Vincent Romano say’s “In my opinion all the songs back and fourth are dumb and none of this shouldn’t have happened because I’m just not a fan of any of it, but if I had to say someone won this battle it would be Kendrick because his songs went hard.”
Also freshman Malak Mustafa says ” Kendrick won this battle because his rap made sense and there was truth in what he was saying while Drake was making up lies just to rap back.” Majority think Kendrick won this battle but Drake fans are still standing there ground to support their favorite music artist.
Although there are multiple conspiracy theories like “Drake said it was false information to cover for himself” or “It’s a publicity act.” What about you? What do you think about the recent drop in songs?
