The Lives of Student Athletes

By Eddie Brim

Being a student athlete requires a ton of time and effort, and is a huge responsibility. Have you ever wondered what a WHHS athlete does out of school and off the field? If the sport is in season the members of the team live very limited lives, comprising of coming home after a game or practice at 7:00 pm and doing homework, eating, and then going to bed to follow the same routine the next day. On the weekends, sometimes after a Saturday practice, athletes hang out with friends or family, while others just like to catch up on their sleep. In the off season, it really depends on the person what they do.

Some of the athletes play another sport in a different season, while some just relax and hang out with friends, and others dedicate more time into their sport and practice during the off season to get ready for the next WHHS season.

“I usually get up for an early practice Saturday morning and then watch TV or hang out with someone. On Sunday I don’t have practice so I watch football,” said WHHS senior basketball and baseball player Tim Kolankowski,”During my off seasons I normally hang out with friends and prepare for the season by practicing and getting in shape.” Not all athletes are exactly the same, but that is just a look into some athletes lives outside of the classroom.
