Robotics Team Advancing to Super Regional

By Hanna Qira and Samantha Vaught

Our very own Robotics team composed of the some of the brightest students in WHHS are set to compete in the Super Regional at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania from March 17-19. There will be a total of 72 teams competing from all across the east coast.

Previously, the Robotics team competed at the FTC Velocity Vortex Competition which is aimed to inspire young people to become more involved in the science community. It inspires innovation and engages students in engineering and technology skills.

The team traveled to Plainsboro on Sunday, February 26 to partake in the finals for the competition. The WHHS team built a robot that was designed to shoot balls into a center vortex, lift a cap ball, collect particles, and claim beacons.

48 teams were enrolled in the championship, and WHHS successfully made it to the finals combined with three other teams. They did not secure a win, but they are going to work hard to overcome the problems they faced.

Riya Patel, graphic design and document specialist, said,  “It was a very exciting, but nerve-wracking experience.”

The captains of the team are Sunny Patel and Marlin Kalutota, both seniors. The other seniors apart of the team are Isabella Moran and Noah Ng. The supervisors of the 11 members of the team are Robert Yost and Dax Patel.
